Stick to your diet this year!
It’s easy to let healthy eating habits fall by the wayside during
the holidays, but this year, make sure you stay on track by
including delicious seasonal foods in your diet. Foods like brussels
sprouts, apples, sweet potatoes, roasted nuts and salmon that are
filled with fiber and essential nutrients can make a massive impact
on how you feel in 2016!
2016 is your year to quit smoking!
Did you know that tobacco smoke contains a deadly mixture of more than 7,000
chemicals?1 In fact, people who stop
smoking greatly reduce their risk for disease and premature death. If
you’re interested in learning more about quitting smoking,
talk to your local Health Mart pharmacist
about the following options:
-
Nicotine replacement products 2
o Nicotine patch
o Gum
o
Lozenge
o Inhaler
o Nasal spray
-
Prescription non-nicotine medications 3
o Bupropion (Zyban®)
o Varenicline
(Chantix®)
Quick tip: Counseling and medication are both effective
for treating tobacco dependence, and using them together is
more effective than using either one alone.
New year, new medications
Now’s a great time to make sure that your medicine cabinet isn’t filled with
expired medications! Take five minutes to check your medications for anything
that’s dated 2015 or older. If you have questions about what to do with your
medications,
stop by your local Health
Mart pharmacy
, and we can help you determine the best way to
recycle or dispose of any of your medications safely.
Keep 2016 on a healthy track
Now is a great time to set yourself up for a healthy year. Call
your healthcare professional to schedule an annual physical and to set up
any vaccination appointments that you might need.
Set aside five minutes each morning to make a healthy plan for
the day. If you achieve your plan, great! If you’re not able to stick to your
plan, at least you’ll be able to identify areas to improve.
Check on others! Pay your health forward by checking on others.
Elderly neighbors or friends may need assistance with health-related issues.
Being a good partner to others will help you keep your own health in mind.
Shop healthy. Make it a priority to shop for healthy food every
time your groceries run out. Challenge yourself to try at least one new healthy
dish each week. And just think, after one year, you’ll have 52 new healthy
recipes!
Make each day count!
-
Smile and laugh more. They are natural anti-depressants.
